Emelia Hammerschmidt

Emelia Marie Hammerschmidt was born on April 2, 1908 in Mulligan Township, the daughter of Michael and Elizabeth (Roiger) Sturm. She was united in marriage to Edward Hammerschmidt on January 19, 1932 at St. Raphael''s Catholic Church in Springfield. The couple lived in Rowina and Wanda where they farmed for 34 years until they moved to Springfield in 1968. She was a former member of St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda and a current member of St. Raphael''s Catholic Church in Springfield, St. Anne''s Alter Society, Mission sewing groups for 23 years, card clubs, and North Star Homemakers Club for 5 years. Faith was very important to Emelia and she prayed the Rosary daily. She enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, music, attending to her garden and flower beds, helping her family, and visiting with friends, family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great granddaughter. Emelia enter Lake Villa at the age of 95 years and Divine Providence at age 99. Emelia died on Friday, November 16, 2012 at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye at the age of 104 years 7 months and 14 days. She is survived by her children - Edward (Irene) Hammerschmidt of Mankato and Theresa (Ralph) Kolp of Redwood Falls; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1980; children in infancy - Theresa and Edward; and siblings - Roman, Elizabeth, Adelia, Michael, Stella, Anette, and Theresa.
