Elva Meyer

November 16, 1914 — February 12, 2010

Elva Frieda Meyer was born November 16, 1914, in Brookville Township, Redwood County, the daughter of Edward and Frieda (Pfeil) Stahn. She was the 4th of 10 children and attended School District #13. Elva graduated from High School in 1966 and received her B.S. Degree in Home Economics at Mankato State University in 1971. While a student at MSU, she was a member of Lambda Lambda chapter of Kappa Delta Pi. Elva was united in marriage to Alton B. Meyer on September 8, 1935. The couple farmed in Willow Lake Township until Alton's death in 1980 when Elva moved to Springfield. She was a member of Sundown Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School, and was treasurer of the Sundown Cemetery Association. Elva was a member of Sundown Federated Mothers Club, Willow Lake Extension Club, Marathon Community Card Clubs, Sanborn Craft Club, and was the Mighty Mites 4-H leader for 17 years. In 2002 she was named Brown County Female Senior Citizen. In her application for the Senior Citizen award she sums up her life with the letters J-O-Y. Jesus first, Others second, and through these two, one brings joy to Yourself. Elva died February 12, 2010, in Corpus Christi, TX. She is survived by daughters- Janean McKay of Redwood Falls, and Mavis (Mrs. William) Waterman of Corpus Christi, TX; grandchildren- Kim, Kevin, Scott (Erica), Glen, Gordon (Ann) McKay, Stephanie Waterman, and Jonathan (Rebecca) Waterman; great-grandchildren- Molly, Matthew and Kari McKay, Kathryn Guerra, Clare and Luke Waterman; and siblings- Malinda 'Peggy' Meyer, Dr. Louis (Cora) Stahn, Orpha Bennington, Fayelyn Wohlrabe, and Fern Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alton; brothers- Arthur and Kermit; sisters- Elenora Stahn and Nina Trygstad; brothers-in-law- Hans Meyer, Dr. William Trygstad, Wilbur Bennington, Dr. Donald Wohlrabe, and Homer Anderson; and son-in-law Philip McKay.
