Elton Sogaard

Elton Lloyd Sogaard was born on the family farm in Sundown Township on August 14, 1929 to Arthur and Mary (Johnson) Sogaard. He attended country school District #71 in Sundown Township. Elton enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1946 during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1948. After the service, Elton moved to Springfield and worked for REA Line Construction around Dawson and Montevideo, then in the Jamestown/Kensel area. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Nogosek on December 26, 1949 at Sundown Lutheran Church. The couple moved to Clements in 1951 where Elton took over the family farm after his father's death in a plane crash. He served on the school board for country school, AAA, CCC, and an agricultural committee. Elton was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where he served on the church board, CCD, the finance committee, the Catholic School board of education, and as an usher and Eucharistic Minister. Elton enjoyed spending time at the lake, hunting, trapping, traveling, camping, golfing, playing cards, and reading. He is survived by children- Jim Sogaard and special friend Nancy of Princeton, Cheryl and husband Peter Hankes of Apple Valley, Jodi Sogaard of Nashville, TN, Kim Sogaard and husband John Jensen of Mankato, Lisa and husband Joseph Farrell of Mattituck, NY, and Kristi and husband Brian Wambeke of Morrison, IL; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters- Dorothy Warrell of Ohio, and Arlene Wood of Livermore, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marilyn in 2007; brothers- Roy, Loren and Merlin Sogaard; and sisters- Mary Ann and Geraldine Sogaard.
