Eltha Lucile Schulz

Eltha Lucile Schulz age 96, of Madelia, MN died on August 16, 2020, at the Madelia Community Hospital. A graveside service will be held privately. A celebration of life that is open to all friends of Eltha will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com. Eltha Lucile (Elkin) Schulz was born in Fieldon Township, MN on November 24, 1923 to D.R. and Emma Elkin. Eltha grew up in rural Madelia and was a graduate of Madelia High School in 1942. Eltha married Herbert Morton "Mort" Schulz on June 20th, 1942 at the Baptist Parsonage in Lake Crystal, MN. In 1948, the couple moved to their farm East of Madelia where they raised their three children: Gary, Harold and Karla. Eltha worked at various places in the Madelia area working at Hales Grocery Store, Jose Motors and Friesen Construction until she began working at Madelia Elementary School where she worked for 22 years as a teacher's assistant. After Eltha and Mort retired from farming, the couple built there home in Madelia and moved to town. Eltha continued to work in her retirement at Madelia Food Pride until she was 80 years old. Eltha loved people and continued to surround herself with them in her work and in her free time as well. She was involved at her church, taught Sunday School and volunteered with the Madelia Hospital Auxiliary, serving as president and a member for many years. Eltha was instrumental in many auxiliary service projects through the years. She enjoyed crafting and taught knitting and crocheting classes. Eltha was a friend to all who met her, she was willing to listen and always offered the brightest smile. Her light will continue to shine through the many people who knew and loved her. Eltha is survived by her children, Gary L. (Ginny) Schulz of Lakeville, MN, Harold D. (Barb Kettering) Schulz of Minneapolis, MN, Karla R. (Bob) Angus of Madelia; grandchildren, Justin M. (Melissa) Grev, Andrea M. (Wade) Johnson; step-grandson, Bobby Angus; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Lauryn, Brayden, Quinntyn Grev, and Emmy Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mort Schulz in 2015; sisters, Leona Lord and Maurita Jahnz; brother, Olie Ben Elkin and an infant brother; sisters-in-law, Ellen Duncklee and Alice (Lloyd) Burmister. In lieu of flowers, memorial are preferred to the Madelia Hospital Foundation. Private service A graveside service will be held privately. Celebration of Life A celebration of life open to all friends of Eltha will be held at a later date.
