Elmer Arthur Jeckell was born on December 26th, 1942, to Albert and Virginia Jeckell in Springfield, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Sharon Lutheran Church in Lamberton and attended Lamberton Public School, graduating in 1960. He enlisted in the MN National Guard during the Berlin Crisis, and in 1967 married the love of his life, Rozalyn Engeswick, whom together they raised their three sons.
Elmer was a lifelong farmer, learning from his dad and passing along to his sons, a love and adoration for raising livestock and the growing and harvesting of crops. Alongside farming, trucking was in his calling as he helped found and drove semi for Farmer’s Livestock, Inc. for many years and later joined his son as cofounder of Jeckell Enterprises, Inc. His talents and hobbies intertwined as he took joy in all his work and various roles through the years.
Elmer was a long-standing School Board member and chairman, member of American Legion Post 41 and the Lamberton Lions Club. He had a passion for hunting and rifles, enjoyed playing softball, the local bowling league and poker nights with the guys. He was able to travel the country and Germany with Rozalyn, often to see his grandchildren, but also to spend time away with Roz, and was at his happiest when his family was all together.
He will be remembered fondly as a hard worker, community volunteer and social butterfly, but most of all as a proud and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He had a giving and generous soul and a true heart of gold.
Elmer passed away peacefully on October 17th, 2022, on the family farm at the age of 79 years. Blessed be his memory.
