She was united in marriage to Fay Kenneth Amsden in March of 1953. They were blessed with four children. After their marriage they farmed in Comfrey, MN, before moving to Walker, MN for 20 years. Ellen and Fay later returned to Springfield in 2003. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading, quilting, playing cards, listening to music, attending church services and bible studies, traveling, coffee parties and bingo. Ellen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield, Hope Lutheran Church in Walker and the Springfield Legion Auxiliary.
Left to cherish her memory are her children - Ilene Schmidt, Irene (James) Zupfer, Alfred Amsden and Amy (Christopher) Cain; grandchildren - Kory, Scott, Eric, Jessica, Alexus; greatgrandchildren - Jaxsyn, Khloey, Charlie, Abby, Deacon, Sage, Meghan, Tanner; and special friends Mary Mathiowetz and Wyona Wolf along with many nieces and nephews. Also, a special thanks to niece Karen Norell who visited Ellen often and brought her so much happiness along with the donuts and coffee. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fay, brothers Clayton (George Ann) Norell and Cliff (LaVonne) Norell, niece Marion Norell and nephew Mike Norell.
Ellen leaves behind a calm and caring legacy where all the people around her loved her. She displayed a very kind heart and was generous and thoughtful to everyone. Well done, good and faithful servant. Blessed be her memory.
