Elizabeth Larson

Elizabeth Claire was born on January 12, 1934 in New Ulm, MN the daughter of Martin Claire (Tauer) Mohr. Elizabeth grew up on a farm slightly south of New Ulm, MN. She was the youngest of 10 siblings. After graduation from New Ulm Cathedral High School in 1952 she was ready to head off to college in Mankato and Minneapolis. After receiving her degrees in Elementary Education and Licensed Practical Nursing she practiced nursing at the University of Minnesota Minneapolis campus Hospital, followed by 2 years of teaching 5th grade in Madelia MN. She left Madelia to fly for Northwest Airlines, living in Seattle for 2 years and flying the Seattle, Honolulu, Tokyo and Hong Kong route. Elizabeth then returned to Minnesota to get married and settled in Sleepy Eye. She married James Larson on December 31st, 1960 at New Ulm Cathedral. She returned to teaching, commuting daily to Fairfax MN teaching 5th grade, 4th grade and best of all Kindergarten and special education for the remainder of her 36 years of service in the Fairfax School district. Elizabeth retired in 1994 and spent her retirement years in Sleepy Eye and traveling south with Jim and Eric for the winter months to San Antonio, TX and Oklahoma City, OK. Elizabeth enjoyed, playing piano and violin, reading, discovering and recording family history, furniture refinishing, travel, canning fruits and vegetables, boating, picking strawberries and making strawberry jelly every summer, speaking and teaching the German language and stained glass work. Survivors include her husband James of Sleepy Eye, sons, Jeff of Oklahoma City and Eric of Sleepy Eye, siblings: Vernon, Clarence, T. Hilary, Allen, Aurelia Guggisburg and Irene Schwartz. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Landis, Marlow, and Sister Agnita OSF.
