Elin was born January 27, 1927 in rural St. James to Otto and Alfrida Nelson. She passed on peacefully on November 27, 2014 surrounded by her children. Elin was baptized and confirmed at East Sveadahl Lutheran Church. She attended Becks Country School, Armstrong Elementary and St. James High School. She was united in marriage to Harold Johnson on July 10, 1954. Elin enjoyed gardening, embroidery, sewing, scenic drives, coffee with friends, associations through church, along with her many subscriptions to women's magazines. Her many pets over the years provided much support and enjoyment to her. She resided at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield for the past four and a half years. Their exemplary care was paramount in her great quality of life. She loved and respected the fine Nursing Assistants, Nurses of 2 North and support staff there. Her hard work ethic brought her too many kinds of employment. Nearly two decades as the Laundress at Comfrey Public School provided the most enjoyment. She cherished the friendships built through her interaction with all the students, associates and faculty. She loved her extended school family. Elin is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Harold, who passed on in 2010, her parents, and many siblings. She is survived by her 5 children: Gene (Concei) Nelson, Mason City, IA; Douglas (Mary) Johnson, Westminster, CO; Diane (Michael Walker) Britto, Lafayette, CA; Donovan Johnson, Comfrey; and Steven Johnson, Comfrey. Her grandchildren are Garrett Johnson, Minneapolis, MN; Shannon Nelson, Iowa City, IA; Gene Nelson, Jr., Fort Dodge, IA; Mitchell Britto, Newport Beach, CA; and Emily Johnson Kauffmann, Westminster, CO, and one great granddaughter, Olivia Kauffmann. She lived a life that brought joy to all who knew her. Elin was always willing to extend a helping hand if she saw a need, provide support where it could be utilized and loved the simple pleasures that a small town and warm friends provided. She will be sorely missed by those that knew and loved her. Rest in peace till we meet again, dear Mom, Aunt, and Friend.
