Eleanora Davis

Eleanora Davis, age 92, of St. James, died on Saturday, march 18, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System- St. James. Funeral services will be 10:30am, Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at First Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. Ken Bowman officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Madelia. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Eleanora Bertena Walker was born February 26, 1920 in St. James to George and Ida Mae (Ringheim) Walker. Graduating from St. James High School in 1938, she worked for Consolidated Aircraft in San Diego, Calif. in the early 1940s. She married Isaac Davis on June 18, 1942, in San Diego. Returning to St. James, they owned and operated Davis Machine Shop for 27 years prior to retirement. Following Isaacs death in 2003, she remained in her home until moving to Brandt Ridge in September 2011. A lifelong learner, she enjoyed traveling, reading and volunteering. In 2004 she was recognized for 40 years volunteer service at Pleasantview Good Samaritan Center. The St. James Sertoma Club honored her with its Service to Mankind Award in 1995 for her volunteer work in the community. She was a member of First Lutheran Church Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Watonwan County Historical Society St. James Chapter and the National Stuttering Project. She was a past member of the American Red Cross, working with local blood drives for many years. Survirors include sisters-in-law, Evelyn Peters of St. James, Doretta Brown of the Dominic and Dorothy Davis of Lancaster, Calif., special friends, Dale and Bette Johnson of St. James, nieces and nephews, Mary Meyer and Michaela, Ardis Hoffert, Sharon Carpenter Bushey, Wayne Bushey, Vicki Johnson Bushey, Marcy Laidlow Bushey, Wilmer Davis III, Terry Davis, Howard Davis, Adair Johnston, Jerry Peters, Dennis Peters, Dale Peters, Alice Peters, Arne Peters, William Peters, Joanna Berry, Philip Brown, Sharon Porter, Sandra Downs, Peggy Powell, Jennifer Craig, Margaret Wey, Eric Johnson, Cheryl Davis, Lois Karas, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Amanda Meyer and an infant brother. The family prefers memorials to be given to charity of choice.
