Eleanor Iverson Bakken

Eleanor Frances Iverson Bakken was born on February 9, 1916, in Ann Township, Cottonwood County, the daughter of Alfred and Marie (Warner) Highby. She was baptized and confirmed at the Old Westbrook Lutheran Church and graduated from Lamberton High School. After attending Teachers Training in Lamberton, she taught school at District 4 and District 25 in Cottonwood County. She was united in marriage to Elton Iverson on January 11, 1938 at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church. She was an active member of Old Westbrook Lutheran Church, enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home, and was a member of Highwater Friendly Garden Club. Elton and Eleanor wintered many years in Arizona. Elton died on October 29, 1985. On March 12, 1988, Eleanor was united in marriage to Lenor Bakken. Eleanor was an advocate for adults and children with special needs. Eleanor died on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the Valley View Manor in Lamberton at the age of 97 years. She is survived by her children - Ellen (Ken) Arnsdorf of Jeffers, MN, Glen (Joan) Iverson of Lamberton, MN, Kern (Shirley) Iverson of Lamberton, MN and Bruce Iverson of Pipestone, MN; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; step children - Sandy Olson, Lee (Phyllis) Bakken and Kim Bakken; step grandchildren; a sister - Lila Esse of Northfield, MN; a brother - Russell (Charlotte) Highby of Lamberton, MN, sisters-in-law - Joyce Iverson of Cloquet, MN and Mearl Keithahn of Storden, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband - Elton Iverson; husband - Lenor Bakken; infant twin daughters; brothers - Lewis Highby and Norris and his wife, Ardis; brothers-in-law - Carlyle Esse and Herbert Iverson; and a sister-in-law - Gladys Hallen and her husband, Richard.
