Eldon Sorbel

Eldon Sorbel, age 83, of LaSalle passed away at the Madelia Community Hospital on Saturday, April 27, 2019. Private family services will be held. Eldon Rae Sorbel was born in Madelia April 6,1936. He grew up north of La Salle. He enlisted and served three years in the US Army 1958-1960. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri and later transferred to Germany/France where he was a heavy equipment operator. It was there that he met Helena Wetter. She would become his wife on March 3,1961 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They returned to live south of Lake Hanska eventually moving to La Salle where they would raise three daughters. He worked for Jim Peterson in Madelia and eventually settled in at the Watonwan County Highway department until retiring. He spent the last several years traveling to Mexico, Florida, and Texas for the winters making many new friends along the way. He was preceded in death by his father Ingvald, mother Helga, and brothers Glenn, Clinton, Richard, and Irving. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Helena, daughters Tilly Thorn (Dan), Miranda Noyes (Will), Jolanda Rothmeier (Rick) 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Eldon was a family man. He loved and adored his wife Helena, daughters, and grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, mechanical tinkering, and playing cribbage. He was a kind and generous soul and will be missed by all who knew him.
