Elden Herbert Malott

August 8, 1926 — June 8, 2016

Elden Herbert Malott was born August 8, 1926, in St. James, MN to Albert and Pauline (Hoffman) Malott. He was confirmed June 9, 1940 by Rev. Ernest C. Birkholz at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in St. James. He graduated from St. James High School in 1944. Elden married Sharon Siem on March 20, 1956 at Long Lake Church by Rev. A.T. Daniels. In this marriage they were blessed with 2 sons, Timothy and his wife June of Stillwater, MN and Barry who passed away on July 15, 2010 in Houston, TX. The couple moved to Little Falls, MN in 1965 and returned to St. James in 2001. Elden served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945 aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Wisconsin and the battle wagon U.S.S. Lowery. He was employed by the State of Minnesota as a weight and measures coordinator for 41 years retiring in 1988. Elden enjoyed fishing, playing cards, vacationing with friends, spending winters in Texas and following all the Minnesota sports teams. He was a longtime member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. James and Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls, and the St. James VFW and American Legion. He is survived by his wife Sharon; son Timothy and his wife June of Stillwater; 5 grandchildren- Andrew, Katie, Jason, Matt and Jesse; 4 great grandchildren- Andrew, Hailey, Kiera and Jacob Bretchel; sister Ardis Halter of Marshall; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Elden is preceded in death by his parents; son Barry; sister Norma; brothers-in-law- Virgil Halter, Luverne Lenning and Dale Siem; sister-in-law Ramona Niemeier; and niece Rachel Scoville.
