Ed passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at St. Mary's Hospital Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Rochester, MN. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.Edward Dale Stevens was born on August 13, 1950, in Windom, MN, the son of Everett and Lillian (Ludvigson) Stevens. He received his education attending school in Windom and graduated from Windom High School with the class of 1968. In 1970, Ed was united in marriage to Lolita Even at the Baptist Church in Windom, MN. Together the couple would make their home in Windom where Ed owned and operated the Phillips 66 station and were blessed with four children, Dana, Terra, Matt and Josh. In 1975, Ed sold the Phillips station and the family moved to St. James, MN, where he began his career at UPS as a delivery driver. Ed delivered packages all over Watonwan and Martin County and was lovingly given the nickname of "Fast Eddie" for how quickly he moved and how fast he talked! Following his retirement in 2006, Ed began working for Lakeview Funeral Home and later Sturm Funeral Home as a funeral assistant. He loved helping others and took great pride in caring for those who were grieving. Not one to sit idle, Ed also worked for Fairmont Ford where he delivered and picked up vehicles and could also be found zipping around town delivering fresh baked cookies and caramels from Leet's kitchen and also dropping off rolls from the St. James Bakery to his many friends. Ed treasured his family and was proud of all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed attending his grandkids sporting events and was their biggest fan. In his spare time, Ed loved to tinker in his garage helping to fix a broken mower or rewiring a lamp, there was nothing he was afraid to tackle. He had a passion for collecting toys, especially John Deere toys. When not busy hustling around, Ed could be found visiting with anyone with a listening ear as he never knew a stranger. He cherished quiet days spent out on the lake fishing and looked forward to trips up North in the summer. Ed's days working as a mechanic and the joy he found working on cars was evident as he cheered on his favorite sprint car driver at Jackson Motorplex. His zest for life, sense of humor and his endless energy will be greatly missed by those that loved him and called him a friend. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Lolita Stevens of St. James, MN; 4 children, Dana Stevens family of Chicago, IL, Terra Kathman family of New Ulm, MN, Matt Stevens family of Sioux Falls, SD, and Josh Stevens family of St. James, MN; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren with one on the way. Ed is also survived by three brothers and one sister: Jerry (Carol) Stevens of Texas, Kevin (Lynel) Stevens of Windom, Tammy (Don) Rathman of St. James, and Mark (Deb) Stevens of Windom; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Lillian Stevens; mother and father-in-law, Ken and Dorothy Even; and two brothers, David Stevens and Gary Stevens.
