Edward Quiring

October 11, 1912 — November 30, 2008

Edward Quiring, oldest son of Claus P. and Aganetha (Wiebe) Quiring was born on October 11, 1912 on a farm east of Mountain Lake. He spoke only German when he started attending country school at age 6. He spent his growing years helping on his father's farm. On September 23, 1937 Edward was united in marriage to Almada Peters, and they made their home in Mountain Lake. In October of 1936 Edward began working with Jungas Hardware eventually becoming manager of Jungas Gas Co. and worked there for 47 years, retiring in 1983. He was very civic minded and spent many years in public service. He served as Councilman 1966-1977 and as Mayor of Mountain Lake 1978-1988 1991-1992. He was commissioner of Southwest Regional Development Corp. from 1980-1988. His enthusiasm and support for the community never waned, even after he was no longer in public service. After retirement, Edward enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee and visits with his family. He and Almada traveled extensively and enjoyed visiting with family and friends, reading, and dining out. He was an active member of Lakeview Gospel Church and enjoyed singing in the Men's Chorus. His faith and church has always been a very important part of his life. Edward died at the age of 96, on Sunday evening, November 30, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. Edward is survived by his wife, Almada Quiring of Mountain Lake; 4 children, Kenneth (Susan) Quiring of Zumbrota, MN, Robert (Leslee) Quiring of Clio, MI, James (Carla) Quiring of Mountain Lake, and Patricia (Russel) Dorris of Columbia, IL; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a sister, Martha Pabst of Mountain Lake; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Peter Quiring; and a sister, Sara Peters.
