Edna Veenstra

Edna C. Veenstra was born June 8, 1914 in Stately Township, Brown County to Otto and Helen (Wendt) Engel. She attended rural schools through the 8th grade then transferred to New Ulm Public School where she graduated in 1933. Edna did secretarial work until her marriage to Harold Veenstra on September 21, 1936 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Comfrey. The couple farmed until retiring in 1981 and moved into Springfield. Edna was a member of the United Methodist Church in Springfield where she served as the chair for United Methodist Women, as a Trustee, and many other committees. She enjoyed her family and friends, and especially her grandchildren. Edna Veenstra died Sunday, June 1, 2014 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield just 7 days shy of her 100th birthday. She is survived by sons- Milo Veenstra of Springfield and special friend Jeanine Quame, and Gary and wife Diana Veenstra of Springfield; grandchildren- Keith (Mary) Veenstra of Springfield, Michelle Veenstra of Ham Lake, MN, Brian (Becky) Veenstra of Springfield, Travis Veenstra of Sanborn, and Tracee (Eric) Sandhurst of St. Francis, MN; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold in 2002; daughter-in-law Audrey Veenstra.
