Edna Bertilson

Edna Minnie Plueger, the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Harms) Plueger was born on November 30, 1916, at Plymouth County, IA. She was baptized in the Lutheran Faith on December 29, 1916, at Preston Township, IA, and she was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller. SD. Edna received her education and graduated from high school at St. Lawrence, SD. On August 22, 1942, Edna married Bert Henry Jorgen Bertilson at St. James, MN. Edna and Bert farmed in the Odin, MN area until 1961, at which time they moved into Butterfield, MN. Edna worked many years at the Butterfield Produce. Bert died on April 10, 1983. In 1984, Edna had a stroke and spent many weeks at Sister Kenney Institute before coming home. She then moved into an apartment in Butterfield, where she resided until 1999, when she moved to Monticello, MN. In 2000, she went into the Monticello Nursing Home, where she resided until her death. During her nursing home stay, she remained so cheerful and self-sufficient even though she could only move that one arm. Using her walker became difficult, and she was confined to a wheelchair. Edna loved her gandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart. She kept her sense of humor and never asked others to do for her what she thought she could do for herself. She was loved by the nursing home staff. She loved playing BINGO, and going to her Bible Study classes at the nursing home. In October 2004, she fell from her wheelchair at the nursing home and broke her leg and right shoulder. After spending many hours in surgery, she managed to rally, but life became to difficult, and it was time for her to be called Home. Edna is survived by her five children, Diana and husband Rodney Tchida of Rockport, TX, Dennis and wife Alice Bertilson of Duluth, MN, Duane and wife Barb Bertilson of Monticello, MN, Doug and wife Brenda Bertilson of International Falls, MN, and Jean and husband Jim Sloggy of Farmington, MN; eight grandchidlren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Moultzau of Seattle, WA, and Opal Larson of St. James, MN; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bert; and an infant son, Dennis Keith Bertilson.
