Douglas Wall

Douglas William Wall was born on February 1, 1927 to William and Mabel (Elgh) Wall at Comfrey, MN. He attended Comfrey High School until he was drafted into the Army at the age of 17 years. He was stationed in Berlin, Germany with the 252nd Combat Engineering Division, until his discharge in October 1946. On May 16, 1959, Doug married Joanne Gebhart of Columbia Heights, MN. They had three children, Linda, Keith, and Jeanette. Doug and his brother Marvin opened a paint and body shop and they owned and operated that business for about 25 years. While operating the body shop he farmed the land at his father's homestead and raised many unique and exotic animals. He was a bus driver for the Comfrey School District for many years and worked as s rural route mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Doug enjoyed flying planes, woodworking, cutting logs with his sawmill, gardening, helping operate Joanne's greenhouse, photography, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion for 60 years, Disable American Vets, and a member of Faith Lutheran Church, now New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey. Doug died on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Springfield at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his wife - Joanne Wall of Comfrey; children - Linda Wall of Tulsa, OK and Jeanette (Kevin) Rupp of Eden Prairie, MN; a brother - Marvin (Cyrilla) Wall of Comfrey; a brother -in-law - Paul Warner of Burnsville; and grandchildren - Alyssa Rupp and Lauren Rupp. He was preceded in death by his parents; son - Keith, and sisters - Bea Warner and Lorraine Discher.
