Douglas Nelson

Douglas Warren Nelson, 92, of Saint James, died January 7, 2026, at the Sleepy Eye Rehabilitation Center.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00am, Friday, May 22, 2026, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Saint James. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Doug was born on June 11, 1933, in Nelson Township in rural Saint James. He attended school in the area. He served in the US Army from 1954-1955. In his early years, he farmed on the family farm. Later, he worked for ST Industries, Tony Downs, Green Giant, and construction. In his free time, Doug enjoyed gardening, tinkering around the house, eating home cooked meals, and especially loved to go fishing.

Doug is survived by his children, Bryan (Joyce) of Saint James, Steven of Eagle Lake, Brenda Steinle of Madelia, Elizabeth (Aaron) Walklin of Richmond, and Jason Nelson of Saint James; grandchildren, Khrystie (Ryan), Craig (Jessica), Sarah (Andy), Wade (Lacie), Hunter, Kaylee, and Elijah; great grandchildren, Alexandria, Victoria, David, Camryn, Vivienne, Amelia, Easton, Grayson, Bentley, Beckham, and Harber; and sister, Joyce Duncan.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, David and Nathaniel; and sister, Marilyn Sperstad.
