Douglas Broten age 79, of Mountain Lake, Minnesota died on March 15, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mountain Lake. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home, Mountain Lake Chapel and will continue on Thursday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the Sturm Funeral Home, Mountain Lake Chapel. Private Family Services will be held at the Sturm Funeral Home, Mountain Lake Chapel. The clergy will be Rev. Rick Bremseth. Interment will be at the Mountain Lake City Cemetery in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Mtn. Lake, Minnesota. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com. Douglas Dean Broten (Papa Hoho) was born on July 21, 1941 in Swift County to Hilda Twedt and Arvid Broten. Douglas passed away peacefully March 15, 2021 at The Good Samaritan Society, Mountain Lake. He was baptized and confirmed into faith and graduated school from Murdock in 1960. Douglas was first united in marriage to Diane Studer (Palm) in 1962 until 1977. In that time, they were blessed with six children; Cherie, Lonny, Connie, Charlene, Corey, and Denise. He was then united in marriage to Janet Broten (Palm) in July of 2002. This then united two families as one with Dianna, Cindy, Daniel and Michael. Douglas enjoyed living on the farm, cracking jokes and making people laugh. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Douglas enjoyed cruising around in his white Chrysler 300, watching the demolition of all structures and his dogs (Airedale) Max and Benny. Douglas is survived by his wife Janet Broten (Palm) of Mtn. Lake; eight children Cherie (Randy) Pierce of Fairmont, Connie Nelson of Mtn. Lake, Charlene (Chuck) Wolle of Mtn. Lake, and Denise (Jason) Purrington of Windom; Dianna (LeeRoy) Callis of Richmond, Cindy Palm of Mtn. Lake, Daniel Palm and special friend Bridget Pollard of Mankato and Michael Palm of Mankato; Siblings Sandy (late husband John) Lavenz of Waterloo, IA, Elizabeth (Gary) Tullis of Pine Grove, CA , and Lynette (Rick) Sulier of Benson, MN; 26 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; Nieces and Nephews along with many family and friends. Douglas is proceeded in death by his parents, Arvid and Hilda Broten, Brother, Harold (Butch) Broten, Sons, Corey and Lonny Broten, and Nephew Shane Broten.
