Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family graveside service is planned. Dorothy Katharine (Prechel) Schuelke, age 92, of Comfrey, MN passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020. Dorothy was born on April 16, 1928 in Burnstown Township to Edna (Winkelmann) and George Prechel. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Springfield, MN and was a graduate of Springfield High School. In 1949, Dorothy married her best friend, Ewald Schuelke of Comfrey, MN at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Springfield. Dorothy and Ewald made their home southwest of Comfrey where they lived and worked together for 64 years. She became a member of Salem Lutheran Church, being organist for a time, and New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey. They were blessed with 4 children. Dorothy worked as a legal secretary for a local attorney and then, for many years, at Farmer's and Merchant's State Bank. She also helped with the farming, in early years not hesitating when she took lunch out to the field, to drive the cornpicker a round or two while Ewald ate. Dorothy enjoyed playing piano to accompany Ewald's harmonica tunes, dancing to polka music, visiting with neighbors, taking little trips to visit family and friends, trips out West, and having special tenting campouts with the grandchildren. She loved having her children and grandchildren around and celebrating special events with them. She used her love of picture taking to keep all the memories alive. She also loved to crochet and sew for others. Dorothy is survived by her children: Sheldon (Marlene) Schuelke, LuAnn Augustin, Preston Schuelke, and Colleen Havens; grandchildren: Justin Augustin (Laura), Joshua Augustin, Heather (Marco) Duarte, Tracy Schuelke, Lindsey Bade (Alex), Mackenzie Bade, and Mickaylie Bade; great-grandchildren: Eric and Carmen Duarte; step-grandchildren: Adam Kopesky, Christina (Ross) Fischer; step-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; special friends Dale Augustin, Jasmine Gordon, and Rich Havens; sisters-in-law: Carla Schuelke of Kewasku, WI and Delores Schuelke, also of WI.
