Dorothy Schmidt

Dorothy Lucille Schmidt was born October 13, 1931, in Selma Township, Cottonwood County, the daughter of Winfield and Gladys (Nichols) Green. She graduated from Mountain Lake High School and was united in marriage to Alvin Schmidt on June 6, 1950, at First Mennonite Church. The couple farmed in Midway Township and Dorothy worked at Land O'Lakes for 25 years, retiring in 1986. A lifetime resident of Mountain Lake, Dorothy was a member of First Mennonite Church of Mountain Lake and helped organize Measl-on-Wheels in the Mountain Lake community and the First Mennonite Church. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, gardening, and organizing family and class reunions. Dorothy Schmidt died Monday, August 9, 2010, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 78 years. She is survived by husband Alvin of Mountain Lake; daughter Donna and husband Randy Prochazka of Butterfield; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; 2 step-grandsons; 1 step-great-grandson; son-in-law Al Kirchner of Ocala, FL; brothers- Wayne and wife Margaret Green of Butterfield, and Bob and wife Muriel Green of Anaheim, CA; and sister Glennys McDonald of Holland, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Diane Kirchner in 2008; brother Loren Green; and brother-in-law Robert McDonald.
