Dorothy Marie Karschnik

Dorothy Marie Markquart was born April 25, 1933 to Roy and Rosalind (Larson) Markquart in Lake Belt Township, Dunnell, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm a few miles from Dunnell. Dorothy was baptized on June 3, 1933 and confirmed in her faith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dunnell May 11, 1947. Dorothy attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Ceylon High School in 1951. She attended Mankato Commercial College and graduated February 29, 1952. Dorothy was employed at John Morrell Company on accounting machines in the office at Estherville, IA, March 1952 until May 1, 1955. On May 22, 1955 Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald Wayne Syverson. They farmed in the Trimont area with Don's brother where she did gardening and homemaking. Then moved north of Butterfield on a farm. They quit farming in 1964 and moved to Mt. Lake where Don worked for Land O Lakes until 1991 when he died. Dorothy was united in marriage to Arnold Karschnik May 8, 1999. Dorothy was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, belonged to Alter Guild, LWML and sang in the choir. Dorothy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. While living on 6th Avenue, Mt. Lake, she enjoyed square dancing with friends in Darfur. Dorothy made lots of potato lefse. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, doing things with her children, going for coffee with friends and attending Wolverine sports activities. She was a tremendous caregiver to her family. Dorothy Karschnik passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mt. Lake. She is survived 2 sons Joel (Deborah) Syverson of Zimmerman, Lyle Syverson of Mountain Lake, siblings Caroline Schulz of Windom, Paul (Connie) Markquart of Sherburn, Mary (Dennis) Senne of Burnsville, Gladys (Earl) Tusa of Alpha, 2 grandchildren Tyler & Karly, step-granddaughter Marcy, son-in-law Mark Oeltjenbruns of Jackson and several other relatives. She is preceded in death by 2 husbands Donald Syverson, Arnold Karschnik, daughter Jean Oeltjenbruns, son Wayne Syverson and her parents Roy and Rosalind Markquart.
