Dorothy Aganetha Fast was born to John B. and Aganetha (Wall) Fast on March 13, 1930 in Mountain Lake, MN. She attended rural school, District 62 through 7th grade and Mountain Lake High School until graduating in 1947. She attended Mankato State College 1949 - 1953, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Dorothy was an elementary school teacher at Worthington (1953-1955) and Windom Schools (1955-1967), teaching kindergarten and second grade. Besides teaching school, Dorothy enjoyed reading, music, genealogy, family history and traveling. Some of Dorothy's favorite memories were of traveling to Europe for 6 weeks in the summer of 1958. She also spent 4 weeks in International Voluntary Service remodeling old homes in Middelburg, Walcheren Island, Netherlands as the only American in the group; also an MTS tour of Mexico and Central America. She visited many of the World's Fairs, including, Golden Gate Exposition in 1939, Brussels in Belgium in 1958, Seattle in 1962 and New York in 1965. Multiple Sclerosis made itself known by her sudden loss of eyesight in the right eye on Dec. 7, 1965. Later, the left eye also became affected to a lesser extent. However, with medical attention and the many intercessory prayers on her behalf, much of her eyesight returned. The illness did cause her early retirement from teaching but her love of learning was sustained throughout her entire life.
