She moved with her family to the Truman, MN area and graduated from Truman Public High School in 1954. Dorothea worked as a telephone operator for the Telephone Company in Truman and Slayton. On December 6, 1958 she was married to Harold Orvis at the Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN. They moved to Mountain Lake, MN in 1989. Dorothea enjoyed crocheting, baking, cooking and she is well know for her volunteer work in the community. Dorothea died on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Dorothea is survived by her husband Harold Orvis of Mountain Lake, MN; two daughters, Carol and her husband Doug McClure of Luverne, MN and Charlotte and her husband Vincent Thooft of Arco, MN; three sons, Gary and his wife Kim Orvis of Sioux Falls, SD, LeRoy and his wife Susan Orvis of Morgan, MN, and Bradley and his wife Robin Orvis of St. James, MN; fourteen grandchildren, Sara, Nathaniel, Benjamin and Stephanie Orvis; Megan and April McClure; Matthew, Jason and Candace Thooft; Corey, Joshua and Angie Smith; and Devan and Zachary Orvis; five sisters, Janice (William) Baesler of Florida; Donna (Frank) James of Colorado; Beverly (Keith) Mattingley of Colorado; Barbara (Jerry) Karau of Minnesota; Patricia (Ron) Bay of Minnesota; one brother, Walter (Becky) Frese of Montana; three sisters-in-law, Lois Brooks and Kay Warden of South Dakota, and Jacie Mitchell of Minnesota; many other relatives and friends; She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, parents-in-law, sisters-in-law, Rosemary Kirk, Patricia (Dick) Gaddis, Joyce (Edward) Shelby.
