Doris Mae Weber was born on June 5, 1939, to Julius and Beatrice (Steffensmeier) Weber in Burnstown Township, Brown County, MN. She graduated from Wabasso High School in 1957. At the age of 18, Doris started her career at the Springfield Advance Press as the Society Editor. She became the editor of the paper in 1981 and after 62 years, Doris retired in October 2019. Doris attended many events to capture the moments and happenings in Springfield with camera in hand. She was a great asset to the community and served on many boards and committees. Doris enjoyed reading, tending her flowers, and golfing. She had an interest in everyone and everything. Doris had the gift to be able to strike up a conversation with someone she just met, and still be visiting with them two hours later. She not only had a passion for her work at the newspaper, but also for the community in which she lived. This was quite evident in the number of organizations and committees she served on. She didnt just delegate duties, she rolled up her sleeves as well when there was hard work to be done. She had a strong faith, a loving family and loyal friends, and she will be missed.
