Doris Savage, age 88, was called into the loving arms of the Lord on Tuesday, May 28, 2013. She died peacefully surrounded by family at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield. Doris was born December 11, 1924 in Springfield to Otto and Marion (Edmundson) Weinberger. She was raised in Springfield and was united in marriage to Joseph F. Savage on September 4, 1944 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey. The couple moved to rural Comfrey and Doris became stepmother to Joseph's 7 sons. The couple was blessed with 4 more sons and 3 daughters. Doris spent 35 years on the farm raising her family and working on the farm. She also worked various jobs outside the home. Doris moved to Springfield in 1979 following her husband's death. She worked at the Springfield Hospital and after retirement enjoyed her home, raising flowers, playing cards, bingo, reading, Scrabble, cooking, entertaining, birdwatching, watching 'Jeopardy', and helping at church with various projects. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and going to Lake Winnie for family reunions for more than 26 years. Doris also enjoyed camping trips to Canada, and trips to Hawaii, Montana, Chicago, and Missouri to visit her children. She was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, CCW, Brown Co. Tri Ad, and Springfield Senior Citizens. Doris became a resident of St. John Lutheran Home in August of 2010. She is survived by children- Douglas (Esther) of Bovey, MN, Thomas (Coleen) of Hornick, IA, Patricia (John) Rolloff of New Ulm, David (Lesa) of Hager City, WI, Virginia (Gene) Veerkamp of Springfield, and Mary Jo (Steele Propp) of Bloomington, MN; stepsons- Gordon (Barb) of Minneapolis, John (Myrtle) of Fremont, CA, and Kenneth (Marvo) of Mora, MN; step-daughters-in-law- Mary Ann Savage of Minnetonka, and Chody Savage of Florida; 33 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph in 1977; brother Elmer; son Roger; stepsons- Joseph (Phyllis), Gregory, Larry, and Michael; granddaughter Crystal; grandson Timothy; and great-grandsons- Trevor and Gregory.
