Doris Sammons

Doris Sammons, age 87, died on Friday, December 10, 2010, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. Private inurnment services will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana, at a later date. Doris Dreher was born March 23rd, 1923, in Spencer, Indiana to Daniel Dreher and Floe Patrick Dreher. She was the youngest of 5 children. Doris graduated from Spencer High School in 1940. After graduation, she worked at the Motorola plant in Bloomington, IN and later moved to San Diego, CA where she met her husband of 64 years, John W. Sammons. John was serving in the US Navy during this time. On Jan. 20th, 1943, they were married in New York, NY. At the end of WWII John was discharged from the Navy and they returned to Mt. Vernon, IL, (John's hometown) where they began their family. John was a cost accountant for J.L. Simmons Construction Company and Doris was a stay-at-home mother in the beginning, but worked in retail after her children were in school. When John retired from the construction company in 1982, they moved to Clearwater, Florida. John died in 2007 and Doris moved to St. James, MN. Until her sight diminished, she enjoyed reading and playing cards. She was a member of First Lutheran Church. She is survived by her 3 children, Jon K. Sammons and special family friend, Mindy White of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Jane K. Wolle (Harold Wolle, Jr.) of St. James, MN and Jeffrey K. Sammons (Gerri) of LaFargeville, NY and 5 grandchildren, Matt Wolle (Holly), Megan Wolle, and Garner, Hunter and Peyton Sammons. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her siblings.
