Donald Peterson

July 29, 1955 — November 13, 2021

Donald James Peterson was born on July 29, 1955, to James and Irene Peterson in Bismarck, North Dakota. He graduated from Dodge Public High School in 1973. Don received a Precision Machining Technology Degree from North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He worked a variety of jobs to find his niche. After receiving a two-year Gunsmithing Degree from Pine City Technical College in Pine City, Minnesota, he worked at Sioux Sporting Goods in Bismarck in the gunsmithing department until it closed. After that he attended Bismarck State College and received a Process Plant Technology Degree. The jobs in Bismarck were scarce, so he decided to come to Minnesota and found a position at the Heartland Corn Products Ethanol Plant by Winthrop. He was employed from 2001-2010. He became a shift lead for two plants and stayed until the second ethanol plant was operational. After that he decided to fulfill his dream to open his own gunsmithing business entitled, "Peterson Gunworks". Don married Marilyn (Evers) in 2006 and they adopted Carla (age 7), Ariel (age 5) and Zoe (age 3) in 2007 from Texas Waiting Children. They purchased a duplex in Mankato and remodeled it while living there. Don was truly a man of strength and faith. He had a sweet, gentle personality and was very creative. Also, a master of many trades. He built a composite deck, landings, and steps, with the family helping, at the Pelican Lake cabin by Glenwood, Minnesota. Also, two 40 foot long retaining walls by the water and one by the walkout. If he didn't know how to do something, he found information on how to do it. Reading and collecting books was something he really enjoyed. Among his favorite subjects were faith, mental and physical wellness and gunsmithing. Some of his subscriptions were: Guns and Ammo, American Gunsmithing, and others. He enjoyed dancing and took lessons for swing and disco. Playing cards was always a fun time, especially pinochle with his family. Physical health was a priority to him, which meant eating healthy and exercising daily. Dogs are a "man's best friend" and Don was no exception for he always had a four-legged friend in tow. His miniature labradoodles loved to go with him. His real passion was hunting, trapping, fishing and the out-of-doors. He is survived by wife, Marilyn Peterson from Comfrey, Minnesota; daughters, Sarah Olsen, from Bismarck, North Dakota; Carla Peterson, Ariel Peterson and Zoe Peterson from Comfrey, Minnesota; sister, Margie Peterson from Bismarck, North Dakota; and grandsons, Isaiah Olsen and Paxten Olsen from Bismarck, North .
