Dr. Donald Davis, age 82, of St. James died on January 1, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. Funeral Service will be 11 AM Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in St. James, MN with Rev. Lowell Knauss officiating. Visitation will be from 5 PM to 7 PM on Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and will continue one hour before the service on Saturday at the church. Burial with military honors will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. You may send the family condolences online at www.sturmfh.com Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James Dr. Donald Davis was born on April 30, 1930 to Waldron and Grace (Corliss) Davis in Cloquet, MN where he grew up and graduated from High School. He attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and from there he went to the University of Colorado and graduated with a degree in Chemistry. He returned to the University of Minnesota to work on his masters in chemical engineering but the Korean War had begun. He served as a naval officer from 1952-1956. He received several medals including the Naval and Marine Corps Medal of Honor. Following the service he worked for two summers as an engineer at Scherr Tumico in St. James. He attended the University of Minnesota Dental School, graduating in 1960. He practiced dentistry for 40 years in St. James. In addition, he was actively engaged in farming. He was united in marriage to Karen Bergman on April 9, 1960 in St. James. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Elder and Trustee. He was a former member of the Lions Club, Masons Lodge and American Legion. As an avid outdoors-man, he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying his airplane. He is survived by his wife Karen of St. James; daughter, Deborah (Kevin) Christopher of Jackson; son, Donald Jr. (Catherine) Davis of Mankato; grandchildren, Sarah and Scott Christopher, Nicholas and Andrew Davis; sister, Winifred (Fritzie) Hover of Cave Creek, AZ; nieces, Holly Hover of Cave Creek, AZ and Stacy Smith of Austin TX; nephew, Charles Hover of Chandler, AZ and sister-in-law, Julie Gilbert of Frisco TX.
