Dona Johnson

Dona Marie Monsen was born in St. James, Minnesota, June 7, 1924 to parents Joseph and Florence (Gillott) Monsen. She was baptized and confirmed at First Presbyterian Church in St. James. Dona grew up in St. James graduating from St. James High School in 1942. On June 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to Kermit Johnson. The couple made their home and raised their family in the St. James area. Dona went to work as an administrative assistant at Scherr-Tumico in 1963 and retired in 1984. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cross-stitch and cooking. She and Kermit loved spending time at their cabin near Grand Rapids where they loved to fish. Dona usually caught most of the fish. She was active in East Sveadahl Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, helped with Easter breakfast and many other events. She was also active in 4H and attending and supporting her grandchildrens sporting events and school activities. She and Kermit enjoyed traveling. Dona was a wonderful Mother, always there to support her children and always the first one to jump up to get family and guests anything they needed. Dona Johnson passed away on Friday, April 05, 2019 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James. Dona is survived by her husband of nearly 73 years, Kermit Johnson of St. James, 3 daughters; Judy & Gary Schutz of St. James, Joyce Johnson & Mike Schueneman of Mankato, Jennifer & Steve Way of Fort Myers, FL, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sister, Beverly Van Dusen of Watsonville, CA and a sister-in-law Evelyn Johnson of St. James. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Donald and Lyle Monsen, sisters Shirley Sawatzke and Ethel Thurovat.
