Dominic Francis "Nick" Kunz was born on June 2, 1939 to Joseph Henry and LoRita Joan Kunz in Madelia, MN. He grew up in Madelia and was a graduate of Madelia High School. Nick joined the United States Army in 1961 and was Honorably Discharged in 1963. He married Mary Lueder on June 23, 1979 at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in New Ulm, MN. Nick worked as a technician with the phone company for more than 30 years, as well as farming with his brother on the farm east of Madelia. He served in many roles, including secretary, treasurer and president of the Sportsman Club, was a member of the Prairie Enthusiasts and the St. Mary's School Board. He was a long time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Madelia and volunteered as a mass server and usher. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting in area fields and fishing. He played baseball for 40 years with area teams, ending his career as a pitcher with the Madelia Patriots. In his retirement his time was spent restoring his fields to prairie. He also liked to travel and took trips hiking in the Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park, rock hunting in AZ, camping in Colorado, Arizona, Texas and Florida. Dominic Francis "Nick" Kunz age 79, of Madelia, MN died on October 10, 2018, at his home. Nick is survived by his wife, Mary Kunz of Madelia; sister, Ruth (Alan) Hacker of Morgan; brothers, Gregory, Bernard Kunz of Madelia, Vincent Kunz of West Lafayette, IN, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathryn Zilka; brother, Paul Weldon, and sister-in-law, Allie Kunz.
