Dee Nelsen

Dolores "Dee" Florence Nelsen age 72, of Clements, MN died on January 24, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 27, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel and will continue one hour prior to Mass on Tuesday at church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Raphael Catholic Church, Springfield, MN, on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 11:00 am. The clergy will be Father Jeremy Kucera. Interment will be at the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Clements, MN. Dolores “Dee” Platz was born on May, 2, 1952 in Springfield, MN, the daughter of Norbert and Florence (Anderson) Platz. She attended and graduated from Springfield Public High School. Dee married Gene Groebner on February 5, 1972  in Clements, MN, raising 4 children together before his passing in 1988. Dee later married Patrick Nelsen on July 27, 1991 and they welcomed another daughter into the family.

From 1989 to 2004, she was the head cook at St. Raphael’s Catholic School in Springfield. She even tried her hand at selling Avon with her family always joking that she was her “own best customer.”

In her younger years, she loved to play softball for the Clements women’s team. Dee could be found outside in the garden, fishing and camping at the lake enjoying the sun. She also liked cooking, playing cards, games and puzzles, beanbags and time with Pat at “The Hut.” Above all she loved spending time with her family, especially her kids and grandkids. In her later years Dee looked forward to Sunday game days watching the Vikings play and left quite the impression with her multiple winnings during each bingo day at the nursing home. She loved to share her winnings with Pat and her grandkids.

Dee is survived by her husband Pat; children - Shelly (Bill) Tauer, Brian (Rashal) Groebner, Trisha (Shawn) Rummel, Brent (Stacey) Groebner and Tori (Chris) Gillard; grandchildren - Abby (Josh) Flygare, Lexi (Tucker) Tauer, Jake Tauer, Courtney (Zach) Mickelson, Tyler (Kenzie) Rummel, Mason (Lilly) Rummel, Sam (Ella) Rummel, Trevor Groebner; great grandchildren, Grayson and Saelah Flygare and Brooklyn and Parker Mickelson; siblings Max Walter and Coke (Gary) Richert; in-laws Mark (Theresa) Nelsen, Steve (Jean) Nelsen, Barb (Chuck) Hansen, Jim (Betty) Groebner, Donna (Irv) Plotz,  Denny (Karen) Groebner. She was preceded in death by her first husband Gene in 1988; parents Norbert and Florence Platz; and father and mother-in-law Henry and Arlene Groebner and Adeline and Adolph Nelsen.
