Dolores Essig

Dolores Mary Essig was born February 12, 1923 in Charlestown Township, Redwood County, the daughter of Ralph and Estella (Schouweiler) Flaig. She attended country school and worked as a hired girl for area families. Dolores was united in marriage to Glenard Essig on September 25, 1944 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sanborn. The couple farmed in Germantown Township from 1948 until 1974. Dolores worked for the grocery store in Sanborn and taught CCD for many years. She was an active member at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sanborn for many years before moving to Springfield in 2000. Dolores was a current member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. She enjoyed baking, embroidery, music, cards, Bingo, and was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins. Grandma Dodo will always be remembered for making homemade jelly, candy, honey cookies, and chocolate cake. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. Dolores died on October 17, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield at the age of 83 years. She is survived by her children - Mary Jo husband Roger Burginger of Sanborn, Corrine husband Denny Hammerschmidt of Mapleton, Christine husband Tom George of Duluth, Melody husband Peter Altermatt of Sanborn, Jean husband Kenneth Jensen, Jr. or Wanda, and Patrick and wife Lori Essig of Mitchell, SD; 23 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother - Gil wife Marlene Flaig of Eau Claire, WI; sisters - Donna Neeb of Rochester and Shirley husband Robert Simonson of Sanborn; and a sister-in-law - Elain husband Dennis Pechtel of New Ulm. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband - Glenard in 1996; an infant granddaughter; and a brother - Francis Bud Flaig.
