Dianne Fay Moe was born November 17, 1946 in Volga, SD, the daughter of Knute & Alma (Anderson) Moe. She grew up in Arlington, SD, where she graduated from high school. She received her teaching degree from Dakota State College in Madison, SD. She then moved to St. James where she started her teaching career in 1969. She met Steven Dougherty in St. James and on June 26, 1970, the couple were united in marriage. Steve re-enlisted in the Army, the couple moved to Alaska in 1974. Dianne taught economically challenged adult GED classes at the University of Alaska. In 1979, the couple moved to Madelia where Dianne ran the Day Care Center until 1981 when she began teaching in Comfrey where she taught until her retirement in 2007. Dianne taught in various schools and in many different environments with one common factor, she loved her students. Dianne and Steve raised three children together until his death in 1991. She them raised them as a single mom. She would always work more than one job, always putting her children's needs ahead of her own. She enjoyed playing softball in her younger years. She loved attending her boys athletic events. She loved playing cards, bingo and spending time at the casino. She enjoyed all the traveling she did with her siblings and just being social. Her favorite times where those spent with her grandchildren. She was always the "fun grandma" she always made sure they made the most out of the time spent together. She loved spending time with them and they loved spending time with her. Dianne is survived by her children; Jason (Sami) Dougherty of Butterfield, Jeren (Adam) Marxen of St. James, Jon (Jessie) Dougherty of St. James, 7 grandchildren; Shania Hansen, Jordan Dougherty, Mahryn Dougherty, Madison Dougherty, McKinley Marxen, Maxwell Marxen, Gwenyth Dougherty, siblings; Elaine Steffensen of Arlington, SD, Yvonne Dobrenski of Brookings, SD, Ronald (Linda) Moe of Madison, SD, and s sister-in-law; Joanne Moe of Brookings, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband; Steven, parents; Knute & Alma Moe, twin-brother; David Moe, brothers; Robert, Keith, in-laws; Harry & Aredia Dougherty brothers-in-law; Wenzel Steffensen, William Dobrenski and sister-in-law; Judith DeLaCruz.
