Dewey Lee Sandmeyer was born April 13, 1936 on a farm in the Township of Butterfield, MN. He was the son of Leo and Lenora (Hanson) Sandmeyer. He attended country school and in 1954 graduated from St. James Hish School. On June 1, 1968, Dewey was united in marriage at Graettinger, IA to Judy Graettinger. They were blessed with 9 beautiful children. Dewey served in the Army, was a carpenter, worked at Anderson Furniture and later became an employee of the City of St. James. He retired in 2001. Dewey was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Park Board. He enjoyed playing horse shoes, watching westerns and the Twins on TV, having coffee with friends, going to Branson, fishing, hunting, golfing, and spending time with family, friends and grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy, five sons and four daughters: Tom (Amy) Sandmeyer, Mark (Becky) Sandmeyer, Cindy (Tim) Brey, Susan (Glen) Hillesheim, John (Robin) Sandmeyer, Sara (Kirby) Loewen, Gary (Erin) Sandmeyer, Dan Sandmeyer, Anne (fiance Josh) Sandmeyer, 17 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, brothers, Alvin Sandmeyer, Larry (Mary) Sandmeyer, and sisters, Judy (Allen) Jones, Cleo (John) Erickson and Betty (Roger) Fennern. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Lenora Sandmeyer and sister-in-law Jean Sandmeyer.
