Devera Bean

June 20, 1916 — December 27, 2008

DeVera June Carlson was born on June 20, 1916 at her home in Comfrey, MN to Palm and Hilda (Anderson) Carlson. She was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Comfrey and was currently a member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey. DeVera graduated from Comfrey High School in 1934. She was employed by the Peoples State Bank of Comfrey and later cared for her invalid mother, after her father's death. On February 14, 1947 DeVera married Melvin George Bean at the Faith Lutheran Church. Mel and DeVera raised their children on an acreage by Mountain Lake, MN where Mel was employed by Land O' Lakes, and she was a housewife and stay at home mom. They enjoyed camping with their family in Northern Minnesota, being with family and friends, and gardening. DeVera also enjoyed reading, watching sports on TV and talking on the phone. After retirement, they moved to Odin, MN, where DeVera remained until August of 2003. Melvin passed away on December 24, 2001. She then lived in an apartment and Prairie View Apartments in St. James, MN until becoming a resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home in August 2008. DeVera is survived by her son, David Bean and wife Stephanie of Wenatchee, WA; daughter, Susan Melheim and husband Scott of St. James; three grandchildren, Alexander Bean, Alicia Bean, and Victoria Overson and husband Trent; one great granddaughter, Lydia Overson; a sister-in-law, Marge Carlson of New London, MN; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Elner Carlson and wife Nixie, Orville Carlson and wife Marcella, and Quentin Carlson;a sister, Alfhilda Frederiksen and husband Harry; and nephews, Jim Carlson and Jack Carlson. DeVera was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, and she will be truly missed by all who were close to her.
