Dennis Vansickle

Dennis Lynn was born on March 3, 1934 in Warren, MN the son of Andrew and Clara (Heller) Vansickle. He grew up and graduated from high school in Warren. After high school he attended NDSU in Fargo, ND for Agronomy. Dennis enlisted in the US Army from 1955 to 1957. He served as an MP on the railroad in Germany. After his honorable discharge he returned to Warren where he farmed with his father and brother. Dennis married Darlene A. Johnson on July 12, 1958 in Middle River, MN. They made their home in Warren where Dennis continued to farm with his brother. They ran a large farming operation for several years, later scaling back and farming a smaller acreage with his brother, nephew Jim, son Jay and hired hand John Pletch. Vansickle Farms was awarded the Master Farmer Award in 1967. Dennis's health forced him to retire from farming full time in 1977. Dennis and Darlene continued to live in Warren until moving to their lake home on the Rainy River near Baudette in 1985. While living near Baudette Dennis helped area farmers and neighbors part time for several years. Dennis was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Warren and the Wabanica Lutheran Church near Baudette. He served as a volunteer with the Warren Ambulance Department for many years. He was also a member of the Warren and Baudette American Legion and the Baudette Moose Lodge. Denny and Dar enjoyed traveling with friends in retirement spending several winters in Texas and Nevada, they also enjoyed many trips to New York to see their grandchildren. Denny also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, especially solitaire. Denny enjoyed people, he always wanted to visit and learn something about them, always remembering their name or where they were from. He truly loved his family and spending time with friends and neighbors. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Darlene, children, Deborah (Mitch) Carlson of Canandaigua, NY, Jay (Kelly) VanSickle of Sleepy Eye, MN, grandchildren, Nick, Dylan and Brooke Carlson, Alexa and Regina VanSickle, brother, Donald (Shirley) Vansickle of Warren, sister-in-law, Susan Nelson of Mesa, AZ. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Muriel (Dale "Bud") Forslund.
