Dennis Goossen

Dennis Goossen, age 88, of St. James, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Mayo Clinic Health Care System - St. James. Funeral services will be 11am, Monday, March 8, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church in St. James with Rev. David Lick officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James with full Military Honors provided by the St. James Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be at the church on Monday beginning at 10am until service time. On Wednesday, March 3, 2021, Dennis Murel Goossen, loving husband and father of five children, passed away at the age of 88 years. Dennis was born on September 18, 1932 in Mountain Lake, MN, to Peter W. and Elizabeth (Duerksen) Goossen. He graduated from Mt. Lake High School in 1952. Dennis joined the Air Force in 1952 and served until 1956. Dennis married Darlene Mae Gjerstad on December 16, 1955 at West Sveadahl Lutheran Church. They raised 3 sons; Darrell, Donavan and Mike, and 2 daughters; Pam and Lori. After he left the service he worked as a machinist at Scherr Tumico for many years. He then went to Jackson vo-tech, became a lineman and worked for the phone company for a year. He worked for Swift and retired from there in 1994.He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, watching birds from the bathroom window, tinkering on various projects at home and with others and helping Darlene with her upholstery business. Dennis is preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Donald, Jonas, LeRoy, Henry, Elmer, Nettie, Clara and Della. He is survived by his wife, Darlene, of 65 years, his five children; Darrell Goossen, Donavan (Sher) Goossen, Pam (Al) Stokes, Lori (Scott Guyer) Goossen, and Mike (Maria) Goossen, 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, sisters; Jeanette (Joe) Grant and Arlene Goossen, sister-in-law Eva Goossen and numerous nephews and nieces.
