Deloris Rickert

Deloris 'Shorty' Marcene Rickert was born October 1, 1927, in Graettinger, IA, the daughter of Jorgen and Elva (Halverson) Paulsen. She graduated from Graettinger High School in 1945, and moved to Los Angeles, CA where she worked at Bullocks Wilshire Department Store and Bank of America. Deloris was united in marriage to Carl 'Pete' Rickert on March 19, 1966, in La Mirada, CA. Following marriage, the couple farmed northwest of Mountain Lake until Pete's death in 1999. Deloris was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake where she was superintendent of Bible School for many years. She enjoyed watching old westerns, attending craft shows, and going to the Okoboji Summer Theatre. Deloris loved and supported the youth activities at her church. Deloris 'Shorty' Rickert died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the Windom Area Hospital at the age of 82 years. She is survived by children- Michelle Travis (Chuck Yeary) of Brainerd, and Kirk (Lisa) Rickert of Prior Lake; grandchildren- Joel and Paul Travis of Eau Claire, WI, and Sydney and Matthew Rikcert of Prior Lake; special grandchildren- Jazelle Yeary and Quinten Starks of Eau Claire, WI; brother LeRoy 'Pete' Paulsen of Meriden, KS; sisters- Helen Westfall of Graettinger, IA, and JoAnn (Jim) Schoning of Ruthven, IA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Pete; daughter Paula LaMont in 2004; sisters- Minerva Russell and LaVonne 'Bonnie' Harrelson; great-niece Miranda Neville; and great-nephew Greg Lohr.
