David Ronald Johnson

David Ronald Johnson, age 83, of Sanborn, MN died on Friday, June 19, 2026, at CentraCare Redwood Hospital in Redwood Falls, MN. 

Visitation will be on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Sundown Lutheran Church in rural Springfield, MN.

Funeral Service will be held at Sundown Lutheran Church on Friday at 1:00 PM.

Interment will be at the Sundown Lutheran Cemetery

David Ronald Johnson was born on November 17, 1942, to Ronald and Gladys (Meyer) Johnson in Springfield, MN. He graduated from Sanborn High School in 1960. On February 1, 1964, Dave was united in marriage to Betty Cooley at Sundown Lutheran Church. During and after graduation, Dave farmed and raised pigs alongside his father. Dave was a self-taught mechanic that worked on both small and large equipment. He started working at Fox Brothers, continued at Massey-Ferguson Implement Dealership, and then Sanborn Parts. In 1975, Dave purchased Sanborn Parts and renamed it Johnson Sales and Repair. He initially sold lawn mowers, garden tractors, snowmobiles, and miscellaneous equipment and did repairs; he later focused solely on repairs. After retiring, Dave continued to restore tractors and garden tractors, doing oil changes, and tinkering on other projects. Dave also was the caretaker of the Sanborn Apartments until his death. Dave and Betty enjoyed camping at Talcot Lake for over 60 years and also trips to the Black Hills, Yellowstone, and area casinos. He was a lifelong member of Sundown Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and a 25-year member of the Sanborn Fire Department. His family was the most important to him and he enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed time with his grandpup Tucker.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty; daughters - Tracie Erickson (Brian) of Howard Lake and Tricia (Jay) Simonson of Sanborn; son-in-law - Rae Trapp of Sanborn; grandchildren - Dustin (Tiffany) Trapp, Derek Trapp (Chelsey), Danielle (Jordan) Bunting, Dylan (Stephanie) Erickson, Lindsey (Tyler) Davis, Macy (Andy) Simonson Rogotzke, Spencer Simonson (Ryleigh); great grandchildren - Brayden & Ali Trapp, Braxton, Kinsley, Sophie, & Navy Trapp, Brody & Blaire Bunting, Aubree & Jack Erickson, Braelynn, Jaxtyn, Tatum, & Koyer Davis, and Wyatt Rogotzke; and brothers - Bud (Marty) Johnson and Gary (Judy) Johnson. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Tamie Trapp in 2020, siblings - Lois Mariner and Shari Firle.
