David Allen Holmgren

David Holmgren, of St. James, Minnesota, died on Thursday, September 21, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was 71. He was born on August 1, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated in 1963 from Edison High School. He then entered the United State Marine Corp and served proudly in Vietnam. He returned and completed his degree at Mankato State College where his children would later earn their degrees. In 1972, he married Barbara (Arduser) Holmgren, and together they had 3 children, Kristi, Brian, and Amanda. David worked as a bank examiner and then controller for Butterfield Foods Co. where he retired in 2010. He was also involved in many committees and boards in the poultry industry. Whenever asked what he did for a living he would always say, he was the Chief Chicken Plucker. David was a whitty and compassionate soul, he was very funny, and enjoyed telling jokes, golfing and spending time with his family. He was a proud veteran, active community member and a member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus. He could often be found travelling with his wife to cheer on his grandchildren at sporting events or following his St. James Wrestling team. He will be greatly missed. David is survived by wife, Barbara and children Kristi (Jeff) Berlin, Brian (Narissa) Holmgren, and Amanda (Brad) Tatro. His grandchildren Lauren, Logan, and Landry Berlin; Cayel and Ethan Holmgren; Corban, Dalton, Grace, and Liam Tatro. Brothers Frank (Carol) Holmgren and Richard (Lynn) Holmgren and Aunt Beverly Astrum and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Genevieve Holmgren, Sister Linda Ditty, Brother Carl Holmgren.
