David Friedrich

David Duane Friedrich, of Lamberton, passed away at his home on Monday, May 19, 2025. A memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 11:00 am with visitation held for an hour prior to commencement of service.

David was born July 27th, 1937, to Otto and Alma Friedrich in Redwood Falls, MN.  He grew up there and graduated high school in 1955. Upon graduating, David entered the US Navy where he served during the Korean Conflict from 1955 through 1958.  Upon completing honorable service to his nation, David earned a bachelor’s degree in Geology from San Francisco State University.

After completing college, he next traveled to New York City where he worked as a Flight Dispatcher at John F. Kennedy International Airport.  From there, David moved to Walnut Creek, CA and began a career as a real estate professional at Friedrich Gribbon Realtors.

It was there that David met a feisty red head, his beloved Maryann, and following a whirlwind courtship, he took her for his bride on February 14th, 1970.  David and Maryann made their home in Placerville, CA, working together in the real estate field for the next twenty years.

Following their time in Placerville, David and Maryann sailed to San Diego, CA spending the next ten years living aboard their sailboat, a 50 foot Dual-Masted Ketch. David was an exceptionally kind, loving, intelligent and thoughtful sportsman. He loved bow-fishing, skiing, hunting and driving trucks. Most of all, he loved sailing and was qualified as a U.S. Coast Guard certified Sailing Instructor.

David’s greatest joys were being with family and sitting on the front porch drinking coffee with Maryann and his longtime neighbor, Dave Irlbeck.

David was preceded in death by his father and mother as well as his brothers Reuben, Jerry and Richard.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maryann, daughters Julie (Bobby) Maddox of Prescott, AZ, and Joy (Bob) Pyne of Placerville, CA and sons Jim (Lorraine) Peterson of Parker, CO and Jack (Michelle) Peterson of Sioux Falls, SD, 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
