Darold Horning

January 29, 1943 — April 9, 2005

Darold 'Shorty' Eugene Horning was born January 29, 1943, in Springfield, MN, the son of Willie and Edna (Hensch) Horning. He was baptized and confirmed at the Revere Lutheran Church and attended Revere School through the 8th grade. Shorty graduated from Walnut Grove High School and was a member of the Air National Guard of Sioux Falls for six years. He lived and farmed south of Revere his entire life and was united in marriage to Linda Schuler on November 23, 1968 at the First Baptist Church in Granite Falls. Shorty was a current member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and had served on the church councils in both Revere and Lamberton. He was also a member of Francis Harnack American Legion Post in which he held various offices, served as North Hero Township clerk for 25 years, and served as an officer on the Redwood County Township Board. Shorty enjoyed driving truck as a job/hobby, woodworking, being at the lake around Willmar, playing cards, reading, keeping up with world events, traveling - especially to Florida and Duluth, visiting with anyone who crossed his path, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. Survivors include his wife- Linda; children- Tricia and husband David Van Hecke of Northfield, Todd and wife Brooke Horning of Revere, and Tara and husband Thomas Phelps of Coon Rapids; grandsons- Mitchell and Maxwell Phelps, Reggie Van Hecke, and Tyler and Matthew Horning; brother- Donald and wife Marjorie Horning of Revere; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents.
