Darlene Kling

Darlene Kling was born August 28, 1935, in Highwater Township, Cottonwood County to Adolph and Mabel (Fester) Halvorson. She was baptized October 27, 1935, and confirmed June 4, 1950, at Highwater Lutheran Church. She graduated from Lamberton High School and was married to John Steinle on September 12, 1953. This union was blessed with 5 children. Darlene worked at the Creamery, sold Avon products, the Sportsman Bar, the Legion,and at Valley View Manor in the kitchen. She was united in marriage to Lavonn 'Tip' Kling on December 27, 1975, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton. Darlene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 53 years, served as Past Commander, and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, sewing, playing the accordion, visiting with friends at the legion, their trips to Las Vegas, and helping brother Ed with Polkafest. Darlene especially enjoyed Christmas Eve at her home and being with her family. Darlene Kling died Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton at the age of 82. She is survived by her children- John (Deb) Steinle of Brewster, Tom (Mary) Steinle of Rosemount, and Mark (Julie) Steinle of Spirit Lake, IA; son-in-law Dale Petersen of Lamberton; step-children- Verlyn (Barbara) Kling of Granite Falls, Diana (Robert) Lange of Kimball, Carol (Wilbur) Norman of Park Rapids, Steven (Karen) Kling of Montevideo, and Scott (Victoria) Kling of Montevideo; 29 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister Marilyn (Dale) Plugge; and brother Edwin (friend Marilyn) Halvorson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lavonn 'Tip'; son Joseph; daughter Vicki Petersen; granddaughter Kathy Petersen; sisters- Amanda (Wayne) Nerem, Irene (Vernon) Logue, Amy (Virgil) Sackett, and Doris (Paul Maas and Vernon) Grinde; brother Leonard Halvorson; brother-in-law Lloyd Ahlstrom; and sister-in-law Lois Halvorson.
