Darlene Curry

March 24, 1939 — October 5, 2014

Darlene Fay Sawatzky was born March 24, 1939 at Mt. Lake, MN, the daughter of Erwin and Marie (Quiring) Sawatzky. She grew up on the family farm attending District 22 through the 8th grade. She then attended St. James High School. On February 28, 1959, Darlene was united in marriage to Roger Curry. The couple made their home in St. James until 1970, they moved to Austin for a couple years moving back to St. James in 1972. Darlene worked various jobs before moving back to St. James. She and Roger purchased Shorty Helen's Caf renaming it Curry's Caf. They ran the caf for 20 years. Darlene then started the deli at Duke's and moved onto Superfair where she worked until her retirement in 2004. Darlene enjoyed garden flowers, painting crafts, crocheting, knitting and sewing. She loved spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her children Brenda (Brad) Husby of St. James, Karen (Charlie ) Waterbury of Ormsby, Brett (Molli) Curry of St. James, sisters June (Dave) Firchau of St. James, Sandi Rogers of Litchfield, brother Jerry (Marian) Sawatzky, grandchildren John, Kaye, Abbie, Ethan, Ali, Kody, great-grandchildren Talyn, Kolten, Brecken, sisters-in-law Pam Davies of Wisc., June Engelking of Alexandria , Doris Curry of Windom, brother-in-law Dennis Curry of St. James. She is preceded in death by her husband Roger, parents Erwin Marie, brother Richard Sawatzky, brothers-in-law Richard Curry and Douglas Engelking.
