Dale Ottum

May 11, 1931 — June 28, 2014

Dale LeRoy Ottum was born May 11, 1931, in St. James, the son of Clarence and Louise (Buggert) Ottum. Dale grewup in the St. James area and graduated from Butterfield High School in 1949. He attended the Mankato Commercial College. On August 9, 1952, Dale was united in marriage to Ruth Joan Warnemunde in St. James. The couple made their home and farmed near Butterfield until 1960. Dale worked as an accountant for Tony Downs Foods from 1959 until 1982. He worked as a licensed insurance agent from 1972 to 1989 and served as Executive Director of HRA in St. James from 1984 until retiring in 1998. He also served on the SCMC HRA for 12 years and on the St. James Chapter of the Watonwan Historical Society. Dale enjoyed gardening and maintained the lawn at the Highland Park Baptist Church where he was a member and also served on the board. Dale is survived by his wife, Ruth Joan Ottum of St. James, daughters, Linda Ottum of St. James, Jocelyn (Mark) Yeadon of Warrenton, MO, Mary Ottum of St. James, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
