Cynthia O'Brien

Cynthia "Cindy" (Newman) O'Brien, age 74, formerly of St. James, Hastings, and Mankato, Minnesota, died on March 10, 2024, at her home in Goleta, California.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James Chapel. Funeral service will be held at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James Chapel, on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. Cindy was born August 29, 1949 to Roy and Evelyn (Willemssen) Newman in St. James, Minnesota. She graduated from St. James High School in 1967.

Cindy worked as a registered nurse for many years in Hastings and Saint Paul, eventually retiring in 2012. She will be remembered as a beloved mother, devoted nurse of 40 years and a fiercely independent source of strength and advice for friends and family.

Cindy is survived by her son Daniel Ross (Norma) O'Brien; stepsons Mike "Augie" (Suzie) O’Brien, Tim O’Brien and Pat O'Brien; grandchildren Veronica Malong, Sandra Clarke, Dillon (Marissa) O’Brien, Alec (Lindsey) O’Brien, and Colin O'Brien; great-grandchildren Adalyn, Sloane and Kenzlee O'Brien; siblings Brad (Colleen) Newman and Connie (Wayne) Pierson; and nieces and nephews Scott, Eric, Jason, Christina and Jacob.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Roy Newman and her son Sean Michael Ben O'Brien.
