Curtis Shoen

June 12, 1934 — July 10, 2018

Curtis Sylvester Shoen was born on June 12, 1934 to Elmer and Agnes (Schroepfer) Shoen in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, MN. He grew up and attended grade school in rural Leavenworth until moving to a farm near Comfrey where he continued his education. Curtis farmed until entering the Army in February 1956. After basic training in Fort Collins, CO, he served his tour duty in Germany in Company E 13th infantry where he was a marksman. He became a member of Company B 17th Engineers Battalion (Hell on Wheels). He built pontoon bridges on the Rhine River and also drove trucks to the port of entry until coming home in December of 1957 and was discharged from the Army as a Specialist 3rd class. After his time in the service he drove gravel truck for Matt Schumacher and livestock trailer for Mel Krueger for over 40 years. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Comfrey and the Catholic Aid. Curtis greatly enjoyed fishing. He is survived by siblings - Clarice Anderson, Calvin (Shirley) Shoen, Carol (Ron) Windschitl; and many nieces and nephews. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Agnes Shoen; siblings - Cletus Shoen, Cleo VanLerberg, Cecil (Butch) Shoen, Cyril Shoen. There will be a private family service.
