Clifford Askeland

Clifford Harold Askeland was born February 15, 1924, on the family farm in Riverdale Township, Watonwan County, Minnesota, to parents Christian and Minnie (Thuestad) Askeland. Clifford was Baptized and Confirmed at LaSalle Lutheran Church. He attended District 36 rural school and was active in 4-H, church choir, later serving in several church leadership positions and was president of the cemetery association. Cliff was a life long farmer. He also sold seed and belonged to the NFO in Watonwan County. Cliff enjoyed his vacation to Norway visiting the area where his dad came from. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren putting together puzzles and playing games. Cliff died on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospial in Mankato. Cliff is survived by his wife; Elaine Askeland of LaSalle, his children; Sonja Folven of Loretto, Sandra (Craig) Holthe of York, NE, Susan Askeland of New Ulm, Sidney (Patricia) Askeland of St. James, Stanley (Kimberly) Askeland of St. James, Shirley (Guy) Edwards of Courtland, sisters; Mae Brekken of St. James, Gladys (Wally) Carlson of St. James, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 3 sisters and a granddaughter Emily Askeland.
