There will be a Parish Prayer Service at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Cleo Jean Simonson was born January 24, 1945, in Springfield, MN, the daughter of Clarence and Julie (Wenisch) Seifert. She was raised on a farm north of Sanborn and graduated from Sanborn High School. Cleo was united in marriage to John Simonson on September 5, 1964, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sanborn. The couple moved to a farm south of Sanborn where they farmed together for many years before moving to Sanborn in 2003. Cleo was diagnosed with M.S. in 1992 and had brain cancer surgery in 2007. She suffered a broken hip in 2008, and finally battled the cancer again. Cleo was a lifetime member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and a member of the Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed macrame, sewing teddy bears, sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, baking, and cooking for others. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Cleo Jean Simonson died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton at the age of 64 years. She is survived by husband John of Sanborn; sons- Jay and wife Tricia of Sanborn, and Jim and wife Mary of Springfield; grandchildren- Macy, Spencer, Chase, and Haley; sister Connie Anderson of Corpus Christi, TX; brothers-in-law- Bob and wife Shirley Simonson of Springfield, and Don Simonson of New Ulm; and sister-in-law Mary and husband Hillard Johnson of New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law- Marvin Rieck, Gilbert Simonson, and Terry Anderson; and sisters-in-law- LaRue Simonson and Donna Simonson.
